Those who are familiar with DJ Krushâ€™s past work know that each release is created with a sense of high artistic value. Beyond the three discs in History Of DJ Krush you will find a package complete with gold foiled packaging and beautiful photographs that document this legendary artistâ€™s career. Itâ€™s really a site to behold.

History Of DJ Krush traces DJ Krushâ€™s path from the recording of his 1995 album MEISO through to his 2006 world tour. Throughout the DVDs, youâ€™ll see never-before-scene footage of DJ Krush in many different situations that helped to define his career. One of the standout moments is a DJ set performed on a specially-constructed stage on the rooftop of a building in Tokyo; shot in November 2006 exclusively for this DVD, amid his world tour. This is the most intimate look into DJ Krushâ€™s career thatâ€™s ever been previously available.

The Japanese saying â€œSUIMOU TSUNENIMASUâ€ is translated to mean â€œThereâ€™s no end to training.â€ The saying derives from a legendary sword called Suimou-ken and legend has it that the sword cut everything that passed its way. Recycled Broadcasts EP explores human communication and weathered transmissions re-used in to alternate musical contexts, forging digital embers of layered voices from 1950ÃƒÂ¢s commercials and static radio messages, staging a neo-narrative buried amongst melodic swells and rhythmic oscillations.
Halogen (aka Adam Janota-Bzowski) collaborated with artist Laura Gibson whose delicately scuffed illustrations of Victorian ornaments and abandoned equipment provide a perfect tailored visual unity with the music. Also recruited was the talent Camberwell ArtÃƒÂ¢s College student Stephen Tyrell, providing a solemn geometric image of ice-cracked lines nestled between photographs taken by AdamÃƒÂ¢s niece, aged 3. The passages of texts found in the sleeve notes are segments of poorly translated un-solicited emails (known as SPAM) found in AdamÃƒÂ¢s inbox. Their verbally nonsensical attempts at selling Viagra have been recycled to mirror the slurs and stutters of voices found in the tracks of the EP underpinning its theme of salvaged communication.

Countless copycats have landed on the bandwagon since Josh Davis’s debut, , wreaked havoc in the dance and hip-hop world. But Davis, a.k.a. DJ Shadow, kept on top of his game with various collaborations–, , –and superlative 12-inches like “High Noon” and “Pre-Emptive Strike.”

Now, a full six years later, he’s back with a follow-up that is every bit as impressive as his debut, albeit in a different way. Once again, the producer has pushed his sampler to the limits, but this time he’s brought with it a deeper, hungrier, more bad-ass spirit that’s rarely found in modern dance music. There’s a fabulous ’80s vibe throughout (principally on tracks like “Monosylabik” and “You Can’t Go Home Again”), along with the expected forays into b-boy culture (check the growling, massive “Treach Battle Break” and the funky-ass “Mashin’ on the Motorway”). While it’s identifiably Shadow, it ain’t Endtroducing…Part 2. It is, however, a worthy and imaginative follow-up, with humor, wisdom, and musical understanding aplenty. –Paul Sullivan
