I don’t think that’s fair. If you think someone’s mix isn’t good, post a message saying that. But ruling out platforms like this for people to promote themselves is unfair. And I think artists would rather their music was being shared as part of mixes rather than just ripping all their shit wholesale.

I agree with the post, especially when people are posting their “first time sets”. Seriously, do you think your first time will be as good, as the 40th or 50th time, and I mean actually recording, and listening to it, distribute it to your homeys, getting feedback from them (if they don’t say something, then there’s your answer) ohh and don’t give a copy to your mom, cause she will agree you sound good. Djing takes time to master, so if you know that your set is monotonous compared to the elite, then don’t even bother submitting cause people won’t like it, however if your set sounds comparable to those mainstream artists, then by all means drop your set.
As a dj, and a LISTENER I’m always tuning into the art being emphasized in the craft of djing, this being said,I know that the others (audience) are listening too and have a keen ear for good sound. So basically if you are not cuttin’ it, then please don’t post…

“No name” people who make their own sets put a lot of time, effort and love in what they do, just like “global players”. I don’t download everything from w-ki because I don’t like everything. You should shut the fuck up and do the same. Don’t know the name, never heard of this or that DJ? Don’t download, but leave the choice for others. “No name” for you is a good DJ for someone else. You never know, maybe some “no name” from w-ki will be a “global player” in a year or two. And then what? You will download or better say steal his or hers music or you will shit on it like you do now? It’s a music sharing site, EVERYONE is free to share. And like “blahblah” said, artists are probably happier to see their music in a mix than stolen in whole. It’s up to you to download or not. Oh, and one more thing. The moderators of w-ki repeated a number of times not to post requests, track id-ing qusetions, petitions and shit like this… just music! Good or bad? It’s up to each one of us to decide for themselves.

An interesting subject. I personally do not wish to hear or download amateur mixes. I would prefer to download trax and practise mixing them myself, as all users can!!

I don’t really see the point in posting them here as nobody really provides any feedback on them, surely a site that is more about mixing than music would be a better place to post them.
Also if you are looking for a gig out of your promo (isn’t that the point of putting together promo mixes?) then surely you should be putting the mix were other DJs/Promoters will actually here it?

I agree! There are plenty of ways to share amateur DJ sets. How am I supposed to know whether or not your mix is hot when I haven’t listened to it and never heared of you?
There simply isn’t enough time to check out all the mixes there are and then decide which ones are worth posting.
If some DJ, global player or not, convinced enough people that his/her set is so good that it should be on the radio or even on CD, this is at least an indicator that there might be a possibility that I like it too.
Basically it’s all about preselection and I’m always grateful when a portal like this has some standards so you don’t drown in endless clutter of meaningless posts.

perhaps it’s a measure of the tolerance of the w-ki folk, but i’m surprised that the self-promotional mixes have gone on this long without an appropriate mass-response. wether it’s tolerance, indifference or ignobility that’s allowed the sets to pile-up, there’s no doubt that as their numbers grow, the status of w-ki as a premier music share site will fall. and that sucks for anyone that gives a shit about w-ki (vs. those who care a lot about pushing their bedroom practice session on an audience that isn’t theirs).

I think it’s good to see mixsets from anyone, including unknown dj’s. there’s always something in a dj set, it’s not just a bunch of tracks mixed together. there’s a vibe, techniques, glitches etc.
Plus it gives some dj’s the opportunity to introduce others to their art.
And it’s just a post with a link, it’s not like this site is full of dj sets.

Well, you two just told us how brainless you are. Obviously, for you, it’s not about music, but about hype and “global players”. You don’t buy, download and listen to music because you think it’s good, but because others (internet, magazines, charts…) tell you so. I’m sorry to see it came to this among people who listen to electronic music. It’s a characteristic of pop/rock MTV generation. Listening to what charts and media tell you it’s cool. I’m into this scene since very early nineties (yes, I’m pretty old for majority of you) and I always had an opinion of my own. I always searched for new sounds and artists, always gave a chance to new labels. Didn’t care what others told me about some record before I heard it myself. You two, and others with same point of view, are nothing more than sheep that follow the herd. You’ll always be the followers, never the innovators.

Aspiring DJs should pass around their mixes, let their friends hear it first and give them feedback. If it’s something really good than post it. I am not going to bother downloading a mix that has 5 or 6 or 7 tracks that are already popular and i’ve heard before.
