Latest release on Richie Hawtin’s label is a longplayer from new signing JPLS. ‘Twilite’ arrives at the end of May.

JPLS’s brand of stripped down, understated minimal techno made its appearance on M_nus on the 2006 ‘min2MAX’ compilation. He followed it up with the 12” ‘Program’, which had the distinction of being perhaps the most minimal thing ever released on the label. Now his debut longplayer is set to arrive, promising ten tracks of sparse minimalism in a similar vein. The album arrives with a couple of JPLS remixes by fellow Indiana native Skoozbot, whose tracks have been in the boxes of Hawtin, Magda and Matthew Dear for a while now but have yet to see a release.

原意“私酿酒”，早在美国厉行禁酒令的年代，私酿的威士忌经常藏在靴筒里，故得名。现在，Bootleg一词的意义已引申为“未经授权、私自发行的出版品”，特别是指唱片、录音带之类的有声出版品。

Bootleg和盗版（counterfeit, pirate）不同，Bootleg专指“未曾发行的录音”，包括demo、试听带、outtake录音间里同一首曲目的相异版本、或是录了却没有发行的遗珠或演唱会的实况录音。演唱会录音又分为直接从音控台录制的soundboard tape，和观众席偷录的audience tape。




Bootleg是非法的吗？

根据日内瓦公约对着作权的认定，买卖Bootleg在大多数国家是非法的行为。在美国，制造、贩卖Bootleg可能招致牢狱之灾，大部份Bootleg CD都是从欧洲进囗的。美国的唱片行会把Bootleg藏在秘密隔间里，仅供熟客挑选。此外，地区性的唱片大展，如Record Fair，有许多个体户会在现场兜售便宜又精彩的货色，是大家买卖、交换Bootleg的好时机。

日本是全世界规模第二大的音乐市场，也是亚洲最大的Bootleg消费国。该国法律虽然认定Bootleg是非法产品，却从未认真取缔过。东京新宿的巷弄里，Bootleg专卖店鳞次栉比，全都开架公开陈列，货色齐全、资讯丰富，是全球乐迷挖宝的圣地，许多赴日演出的欧美艺人都会慕名光顾。日本人对资讯的娴熟掌握，以及竭力穷究的精神，使它成为当今世界Bootleg研究的重镇。

从知识产权的角度来说，Bootleg违反当事人意愿、私自出版贩卖，的确是对艺人的侵犯。 然而有些Bootleg的制作和发售都得到该音乐家的默许，比如Enigma等。

Vinyl
各种规格的黑胶唱片的总称。颜色通常为黑色，偶尔也有彩色。
Vinyl，乙烯基，黑胶唱片使用的合成材料。纯度越高，唱片音质越好，但对音质影响最大的是转速。
德国发明家爱米尔·贝利纳（Emile Berliner）于1887年设计出第一张黑胶唱片。

黑胶唱片的常规转速有78转、45转和100/3转；黑胶唱片的常规尺寸有7英寸、10英寸和12英寸；黑胶唱片的厚度由0.8毫米至2.2毫米；黑胶唱片的重量在80-220克。

黑胶唱片作为一种声音和音乐的载体几乎占据了整个20世纪，直到1984年CD诞生。中国在1992年进入CD时代后黑胶生产线大量被淘汰，黑胶唱片的价格从30元左右跌至15元左右。但是由于收藏者的喜好，从1994年开始，黑胶唱片的价格逐渐回升，到1996年已突破百元。
1998年国内最后一条黑胶生产线关闭，目前国内市场的黑胶唱片都是引进海外的，或者二手的。现在在广州的陶街，最便宜的黑胶唱片要六七十元钱，珍藏版本的可以上千。
黑胶唱机在二手市场需要几百元钱，通常还需要买家自己花几百元钱更换唱针，总花费在千元左右。新黑胶唱机都是进口的，至少要2000元。

LP
“Long-Playing” Record
黑胶唱片的一种，转速为每分钟100/3转。收录歌曲达到10首(每面5-6首)，记录时间60-80分钟(每面30-40分钟)。由于这已接近黑胶唱片时代的最高标准，因此，也叫全尺寸专辑(full length album)。
1948年开始，100/3转速的唱片正式投放市场。在整个黑胶唱片的发展历程中持续的时间最长，发行的数量最大，声音品质也最好，100/3转速的唱片是黑胶唱片发展的顶峰。

EP
“Extended-Playing” Record 细碟
这个术语是黑胶唱片（密纹唱片）时代的产物，它的播放速率也是100/3转每分钟，但每面只有1-3首歌首，时间在3-20分钟之间，和LP相比，它的内容要少出一截。
现在，它指那些歌曲数在7首以下，播放时间不超过30分钟的“专辑”，为了与正式的专辑区分，它也叫“短专辑”或“小专辑”，为了与大碟区分，它也叫细碟。另外，它的物理介质还可能会使用MCD(Mini CD)，不过现在这种情况已经很少了。看了这个说明，我们也可以知道，某些娱乐主持人说EP大碟，那是错误的。EP就是细碟，是不够“全、大”的发行形式，它已经成为现在音乐发行的主要手段了。比如艺人有几首不错的歌希望推出，但又够不上一张大碟的数量，就会选择发行“EP”。

20世纪90年代SACD的出现，使得数码系统在频宽、动态和静噪方面都有了很大的提高，大有超越模拟系统之势。为了与SACD数码唱片抗衡，黑胶唱片制造商在不断提高刻纹技术的同时，把33.3的转速提高到45转，请注意，这时的45转唱片的定义已不是过去的“EP”，而是LP的极至规格，它的尺寸与33.3唱片完全相同，唱片轴孔径也与33.3唱片一样，唯一不同之处就是转速，唱片转速的提高与开盘录音机提高带速有着相同的目的，就是提高单位时间内记录密度，从而获得更高的声音品质 。

对于黑胶唱片，确认是否EP唱片有两个特征可寻，一是EP唱片的直径是7英寸（约180毫米），二是唱片的中心孔径为1.5英寸（约38毫米）。

SP
Standard-Playing
在黑胶唱片的规格中，对音质影响最大的是转速。在唱片发展的初期，唱头的制作和唱片刻纹技术还不是很发达，只有以提高转速增长音轨来保证唱片的频率响应，黑胶唱片转速定为每分钟78转，这是当时一个标准，因此叫做Standard-Playing。由于78转的高转速，导致录音时间非常有限，78转的SP唱片每面只能记录5分钟左右的音频信息。

Single – 单曲

B-Sides
这个词最早来源于黑胶唱片时代。当时碟片的A面（A-Side）收录唱片公司发放给电台的主打曲目，而唱片还有一个面 B-Side，不用白不用，于是就刻上不太重要的作品。
进入CD时代后，这种模式也被一定形式的保留了下来，很多歌手会将单曲中有些不在专辑中发表的作品甚至一些从来没有发表过的歌曲称作B-Sides歌曲。一些歌手成名或是隐退后，这些曲目往往会被整理后单独制作成CD来进行发售。B-Sides也许只是简单的商业行为但你也可以称它是一种专辑文化。
