No-one seems to know whether it’s actually worked yet, but at the end of 2007, it feels like the most significant development to the concept of the modern album format was Radiohead’s decision to allow fans to choose what they paid for In Rainbows. It may not seem of huge relevance to electronic music, where the debate over free music has looped endlessly since the turn of the century, but there was an interesting upshot: at a time when the long player format seems perilously close to pointlessness, 2007 actually turned out to be a rather good year for new albums…

This selection seems rather arbitrary… Efdemin at number 2? I would have put Robert Babicz-A Cheerful Temper somewhere in there. What are your top 10 albums of 2007?

my top album is “Stephan Bozin – Liebe ist” !!! I missing it on top 10
My Top 15 (including much non-electronic).
There are also a few above that I haven’t listened to. Burial is great, but not top 25 for me. Liebe Ist… was also solid. I haven’t heard Babicz’s disc.
Echospace was good, but it didn’t grab hold of me. Onur Özer seems solid, but I need to listen some more. Same with the Field, which I feel borders on sameness, but I might not be giving it enough time.
Melchior was a nice set. I loved the mixed album vibe in 2007. In particular False and Touane. It almost doesn’t feel right listening to those individual tracks. Not just because it’s mixed, but because the mix is saying something as a whole. That’s how an album is supposed to be and I don’t recall anything like that from 2006. (Recommendations?)
I don’t agree with Asa Breed. Some solid tracks, not a solid album. In fact, many of the albums below even wander into territory they shouldn’t. I could nitpick some more, but I’m pretty sure I’ll still be listening to these 15 in 5 years.
